Committee Information For Members
- Newsletter: Oversee generation of content for the quarterly
FPC e-newsletter. The Metro Orlando Economic Development
Commission (MOEDC) will provide assistance in pulling the
content from member and non-member companies.
UCF/CREOL will provide resources to format and publish. The
President usually writes a monthly column. The actual effort
required is low, but the committee members take the lead,
solicit and generate inputs from members, stay on top of the
production, and make sure it is published on schedule.
- Events: Define, plan, champion, and lead meetings or other
types of events (tours, training, etc.). These may be executed
via webinar. Currently, we have two regular in-person
networking events: a breakfast at Photonics West (next one in
Feb2008) and “meet and greet” at SPIE’s Defense & Security
Symposium (next one in March 2008). MOEDC and
UCF/CREOL will provide resources to coordinate the events.
UCF/CREOL has webinar hosting capabilities and the MOEDC
will take care of arrangements for hosting live events.
- Directory: Oversee the content and structure of the FPC
membership and Florida photonics industry directory,
including leading inputs to other directories such as the one
done periodically by the Florida High Tech Corridor Council
(FHTCC). The MOEDC does a lot of work on this, so the main
committee job is to keep track of it and ensure it comes
together as needed and is updated periodically. This
committee works with the Marketing committee to arrange for
member (and non-member) advertising opportunities and
sponsorships.
- New initiatives: Examine ideas for new activities by the
FPC. For example, economic development grants, business
plan competitions, and business development opportunities
for the members. The chair of this committee acts as a point
of contact and coordination, but the responsibility for ideas for
these activities is part of every member’s duty.
- Marketing: Look at how the FPC can best market its
members and the Florida photonics industry: advertising,
promoting, and increasing the visibility of the cluster, its
members, and Florida as a center for photonics industry.
Current outlets include the FPC website, e-newsletter, and
directory, and other resources are available from the MOEDC,
FHTCC, Enterprise Florida, and the UCF Economic
Development Group. This committees works with the directory
and newsletter committees and the resources involved in
keeping the website updated.
- Membership: Lead the development of FPC membership,
including continuous examination of benefits, which at this
time include premium rates at the Grey-Robinson corporate
law firm and member discounts for web marketing at On
Target Web Marketing Services.
