(FPC) also partners with a network of employers, other clusters, professional
societies, resource agencies and search firms to help identify and place skilled
photonics expertise where it is needed.  

Members have access to a dynamic pool of qualified candidates, both recent
graduates from institutions with concentrated programs in photonics and
associated technologies at all levels as well as seasoned professionals seeking a
change. They can also post vacancies which will appear on this site as well in our

Regional Sales Representatives

IR Optical component sales.  This position is also required to conduct direct sales
and marketing activities with customers.  Two positions are available with one
focused on sales with customers in the West Coast of the US and another
focused on the South and Southwest.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s technical degree or equivalent
  • 10+ years sales/marketing experience
  • Working with US defense customers a requirement
  • Government contracts experience a requirement
  • Sales experience of manufactured products (knowledge of optics and
    optical customers a requirement)
  • Proficient written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Travel Required:  up to 30% Travel

Job Description:  

  • Direct Sales and Marketing efforts to achieve company goals
  • Meet or exceed sales targets for all IR products while meeting profitability
    targets
  • Control expenses to meet Budget
  • Conduct direct sales and marketing efforts to customers as needed to
    meet goals

VP Sales / Marketing -Optical, Instrumentation

The primary agent for change and success for the company.  Functions include
providing executive leadership and management to six direct reports, effective
team building with President and Vice Presidents, strategic leadership and
insight across departmental lines,identification, analysis and implementation of
new opportunities. Requires Master's degree in engineering or physical sciences
from highly regarded university and  5-15 years experience, with an exceptional
record of accomplishment and increasing level of responsibility.  Must have
managed both sales and marketing in the photonics or related industry and have
in-depth understanding of target markets including, lighting, analytical
instruments, automotive, aerospace.

Director, Marketing And Business Development
a leading producer of precision metal optics and services, has an opportunity for
an experienced Director, Marketing and Business Development with experience in
high tech optical component manufacturing marketing and sales.  This position is
based in Sarasota, Florida headquarters and reports to the Subsidiary President.
The responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to:

  • Identify, and cultivate new markets and product applications.
  • Assist in the development of marketing and communication initiatives for
    company’s products and services including brochure preparation, website
    updates, trade show coordination/participation and other promotional
    activities.
  • Contribute in a team fashion on special projects relating to the overall
    growth of the company.
  • The incumbent will provide multi-level customer support, product
    presentations, and on-site visits. Moderate travel is expected.
  • Coordinate proposal quote processes with applicable internal resources.
  • Develop and sell into new customers as well as maintain and help expand
    current customer relationships and sales.
  • Coordinate/provide technical support to accounts and end users to meet
    their application and technical requirements.

The successful candidate will possess a BS degree or higher in engineering,
physics, optics or related field with a minimum 10 years progressive
marketing/sales experience in optical components or a high tech manufacturing
service organization.  Familiarity with optics, assembly, diamond turning, and
optical fabrication a plus.  Experience selling into aerospace/defense and
commercial optics markets is highly desirable.  Strong, demonstrated
marketing/sales, analytical, negotiation, communication, problem solving, and

Quality Assurance Engineer
Coastal Optical Systems is looking for a Quality Engineer to work within our
precision optics business and our ISO 9001:2000 certified system.  
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Review customer orders and work with customers’ quality representatives
    to meet the contract requirements for quality, inspection, and certification.
  • Input and review of data from in-process inspections, final inspections,
    and paperwork.
  • Maintain organized inspection files for quality and inspection paperwork.
  • Update and maintain Quality Management System for ISO 9001:2000
    certification.
  • Perform interferometric inspection of lenses and optical systems as
    needed.
  • Perform quality audits and qualification of approved suppliers.
  • Assess and disposition in-process non-conforming material.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot root cause for scrap and rework rate (yield).
  • Initiate and maintain projects and programs that promote continuous
    improvement in quality and productivity.
  • Certification of the overall quality of products produced.
  • Oversee calibration for measuring instruments.
  • Oversee incoming inspection of materials (glass and metal).

Education/Experience: Bachelor of Science in Physics, Engineering, or Math
preferred – recent graduates are being considered. Also:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with MIL-specifications and ISO standards preferred.
  • Experience in inspection and product quality assurance preferred.

Mechanical Designer    
Coastal Optical Systems (West Palm Beach, FL) is looking for a Mechanical
Designer to join the mechanical design staff.  The postion will report directly to the
Mechanical Engineering Manager.  Responsibilities will include (but are not
limited to):

  • Development of opto-mechanical design of optical systems.
  • Manage drawing control for projects including production of drawings,
    control and release to project management.
  • Handle detail interaction between design and manufacturing with machine
    shops to produce a high quality product at a lower cost.
  • Interaction with customers including design reviews and development to
    satisfy the customer’s requirements.
  • Assist assembly including troubleshooting and explanation of assembly
    process.

Requirements:  
  • Requires Associates Degree in Mechanical Design or Drafting
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Mechanical Desktop, Solid Edge, or PRO-E
  • Experience in Project Development helpful
